Describing Franken as one of our best senators requires you to ignore that his female colleagues in the Senate disagreed.

Did they claim the problem has a single cause, or were you just excited to handwave an issue away so you don’t have to think about the more complicated reality of pay imbalances between sexes?

I’m glad this is happening now, but whatever scrutiny he fears would be two years in the past if he hadn’t been so damned opaque in the first place.

It has its issues, and release circumstances were weird, but I’m really fond of From a Basement on the Hill. Maybe not the best, but Fond Farewell, Twilight, and King’s Crossing are top notch songs.

The first Kick-Ass is a lot like Wanted: it’s a juvenile, regressive, toxic mix of aggressive male bullshit that is, somehow, a complete fucking blast. They understand the appeal is the ludicrousness of taking these stupid, stupid premises extremely seriously.

People really want Legion to be a much less interesting show than it is, I guess. I’m still a little disappointed it got snubbed during the end of the year awards business. That last episode was one of the most impressive, unique things I’ve ever seen done.

I think Vinny Chase is really going to knock this one out of the park.

I’m 100% about fake crab over real crab in seafood gumbo. The real stuff is expensive and has a tendency to be overwhelmed by all the other flavors. The fake stuff sucks up all the flavor, swells a bit, and becomes as good as any classier seafood in the pot.

It’s as interesting and unique as it’s reputation, I’d say. The whole series is pretty cold and largely lacking in human emotion, save a few genuinely wonderful moments. That’s appropriate to the material, but it can be offputting. A few long stretches focused on ecology can be a drag the first time through.

The series actually used a lot of matte paintings. First place I learned how they’re used and, occasionally, their extreme limitations (Paul and Jessica out on the dunes before meeting the Fremen is pretty bad if I remember of right).

Assassination Nation = The Purge: Springbreakers

I expected jack shit out of that movie and genuinely enjoyed it. Schlock for sure, almost 100% by the numbers modern day noir-ish vibe, and I loved it. I love when something fully challenges my expectactions, but nailing a familiar story with perfect execution is a lot of fun too.

Jesus Christ, chick-fil-a supporters are weirdly fucking militant.

It’s a semi-functional whiter alternative to ihop, but don’t venture off the breakfast menu. They have somehow crafted dumplings that are the physical representation of Nothing. Something important is lost with every bite.

You’ve got my love.

Let’s talk about Carnosaur.

The jump in quality between the first and second is pretty amazing. The rapid fire pace of jokes is off in the first go, but they nailed it the second time out.

I don’t understand the fixation on ‘walking this back.’

David’s ‘villainy’ is based on his loneliness, a theme they’ve been hitting on since episode one. I’m shocked the show went for it, because the classic turn is to pull back on the charming guy’s immorality before it gets unacceptable, but (just like Walter White!) David’s had this potential in him for a long time.

Man, Ocean’s 12 is the most “Watch A-listers be A-Listers” movie of the lot, though! Also my favorite by far.
