I see no issues with this. I very often get into a car and just don’t want to talk. Sometimes I do, I don’t mind chatting, etc.. but sometimes.. maybe I’m just drained or a had a really bad day, and I frankly don’t want to talk about weather or sports or whatever with a stranger.

Thanks for sharing this - real-life perspective we don’t often get. Happy your family was safe #1, but also happy your pets are safe too.. well done and good for you for ignoring the cops! 

I think a good plan is to not be a horrible human being and leave your pets behind. Ever. It’s disgusting and inexcusable. If you can move a suitcase or backpack of clothes, you can move a dog or a cat. NO EXCUSES. Yes, sure, make plans and bla bla but it’s simple... don’t be a horrible person.
