I don't know much about WHS, but it sounds like you're running some kind of RAID array (since you mentioned redundancy). All RAID solutions present a single partition to the user, if you so choose.

If you have an old machine laying around, I'd install Ubuntu Server on it and put them into a software (mdadm) RAID array (for speed and, if you'd like, redundancy). My comment has nothing to do with the integration aspect. My point was that, nowadays, you want to stick with a single brand for the ecosystem, so it's a big leap jumping ship to MS, and this story doesn't give me any faith that MS has changed their ways.

I'm not saying that this issue on its own is a deal breaker, I just think it signals a more underlying approach to their products that doesn't put user happiness absolutely first.
