That does not surprise me in the least. It’s horrible. I really, really wish they would eliminate the possibility of charging kids 17 and under as adults. Really, biologically speaking it should probably be even older, but at least at 18 they are legally an adult.

16 year olds aren’t adults either. We don’t think people are responsible enough to drink until 21 or rent a car until 22-23, but we are fine with holding a 16 year old up to adult standards in court? No. The are a child and their brains are not the same as an adult. It’s not ok.

I am frankly pretty surprised that people are so shocked that she could be charged as an adult. Children as young as 8 have been charged as adults in the U.S. The girls who committed the “slender man” murders at 11? Charged as adults.
