It doesn’t, but there is no shortage of action movies written with male leads. Action movies (or comedies that aren’t rom-coms) with female leads are much, much rarer. So while I don’t think it’s inherently bad or diminishing to remake Hunger Games with a male lead, it feels unnecessary and unoriginal.

If women led movie franchises and starred in movies with equal frequency as men, they’d have a point. Replacing one of the few female-led action franchises with a male lead is patently NOT the same thing as remaking a comedy with female leads instead of male.

It also doesn’t help that young celebrities wear SO MUCH makeup right now that they end up aging themselves. Everyone from 20-50 is sort of blending into one, quasi-ageless Hollywood standard.
