People in Europe already pay 8-10 USD per gallon. They’re also slowly moving away from small fuel efficient cars and more into SUVs and pickups.
I was recently in the market and really liked the Telluride, but I refuse to pay a 6000 USD “paradise tax” (dealer adjusted market value in Hawaii) on top of a vehicle. I ended up going with a competitor instead.
Kind of the same here in HI. They slap a roughly $4.5K “paradise tax” on the MSRP in HI. Enough for them to make a nice profit, not enough for us to actually go through the trouble of shipping a car here and doing all the paperwork/taxes. The only exception to this practice are GM dealers, for now.
