Doing most of the aiming with gyro also avoids the claw problem to a large extent, too, in my experience in Overwatch and Doom (2016), as the right stick is only needed sporadically.

The local state reflects the player’s actions immediately, but sometimes those actions are trumped by someone else’s actions by the time they reach the server, since both players’ actions take some time to reach the server. So, lag.
