Kinda liking this - pleasantly surprised.

I find this surprisingly human. And sad.

When I first saw this headline, I though to myself, "I hope the author gives New York Groove its due - it's an epic song."

RE4 on the Wii was absolutely incredible - a definite top ten of all time for me. The Wii didn't churn out a ton of great games (IMO), but RE4 and No More Heroes were both near perfect.

I just own the "Ghost of David" album, which I love. Given the comments here, I'll check out his more recent stuff. One question, though: is it all as emotionally devastating as Ghost? The opening track - Medication - is about as bleak of a song as I can recall.

Yep - it's the same.

The Ball Buster ad plays (in its entirety, IIRC) in the middle of UNKLE's excellent first album, Psyence Fiction.

I agree - I read a lot and so does my wife. The Kindle (the e-ink version) has really revolutionized the way (and the amount) we read. But, as an older guy myself, I like the ability to adjust fonts, and I don't feel the need to "show off" what I'm reading via a physical book. A lot of the kids i work with bestow

Really? I haven't seen the film (though it's on my list), but I really loved the book. Not in a "smart book" sort of way, but it was a really well done guilty pleasure.

Louisiana has been hit particularly hard with budget cuts. I teach at a school, and we have a "class set" of most classics, Harper Lee's included. These days, though, I try to limit my selections to things that can be found for free via Project Gutenberg (there's a stunning amount of good, free material). The only one

Agreed, but as you've said - the schools are budget-strapped. This is a problem with the local school boards and state.

I've actually read a few of these. I guess I never really thought about it, but I like this sort of writing. Street Gang was fantastic and that MTV book was pretty good. I had that Twilight Zone book as a kid, and I remember reading the heck out of that.

I owned 3, but not the other two. I remember really digging a few tracks off of 3 (Nightmares, I think, was the single, and I really liked it). You're right, though, about the first two albums - talk about avoiding the sophomore slump. It's just so crazy how different the two albums are. And the nerve it took to

Yeah. It took me a little while to fall absolutely in love with it. It was pre-internet when it came out, and I remember asking around at local record stores. I didn't know which one was the 'real' Femmes. So baffling. But then I just forgot all of that and dug the music.

Herbert Kornfeld.

Hallowed Ground is my favorite of theirs - excellent all the way through. I love the first album, to, though in a nostalgic sort of way. Everything else of theirs just never really did it for me, though I stopped listening after 3.

Nick Lachey always makes things a little better. Just, like, a few percentage points better, but still.

Nothing quite as metal as suing your fans.

Great track - it's a shame they never really caught on stateside.

I thought Gus just made a bad, but logical choice. Honestly, I thought the unrealistic thing was that he just didn't cheat for her in the first place, or at least "coach" her through the answers. He's not an awful person, but he's pretty oblivious and clearly focused on getting what he wants regardless of the
