Love this piece, but I beg to differ on the "where to start." I began with "Music for Airports," and that did the trick for me. If you don't have the patience for Airports, it's unlikely that you'll appreciate any of his work.

For a few years, I'v engaged in the "Phil Collins: awesome or not awesome" debate, and I come down firmly on the side of awesome. All you really need are at least six good songs spread out over three or more albums to qualify, and Phil Collins meets that criteria. Admittedly, he needs the Genesis stuff to qualify, but

While I far prefer early 4AD RHP, particularly the Bridge and Roller Coaster albums, the Sun Kil Moon albums are fantastic in their own right. I wasn't crazy about Admiral Fell Promises, but everything else has been fantastic.

I would've have added "Motown Junk," by the Manic Street Preachers, which contains the lyric, "I laughed when Lennon got shot."

I listened to this because I'm a big fan of Max Richter. I haven't really settled on an opinion of this album yet, but it's really nothing like Richter's work. I guess "inspired by" covers a lot of ground, but still…

I would've added "Virtuality," which looked pretty good to me.

I skipped one of the last Replacements shows (on their All Shook Down tour) to go work my crappy minimum wage job bagging groceries. I gave my ticket to my girlfriend-at-the-time's best friend, neither of whom liked the band. They went, and when I got home, neither could tell me a single song they played.I never did

I hadn't heard of Ready Player One, but I bought it last night on the recommendation. I'm only about a third of the way through the book, but it's really fantastic so far.
