Man of Steel is a pretty solid movie. That said, Man of Steel is not a Superman movie. Snyder missed the quintessential point of Superman’s character. Honestly, the Incredibles does a better job.

Logic is highly overrated. Sucker Punch in particular is a film about people whose brains do not operate in a logical manner.

The uncanny valley effect is based on visceral reactions to the appearances of others. Humans experience it when viewing, among other things, people with disfigurements, people with different mannerisms, people with different skin color, etc., etc.

The original wasn’t as Hollywood as much as Lee twisting around the genre tropes of wuxia in an attempt to do something new. It worked for me. We’ll see how this sequel does.

This is because 1) Ang Lee knows what he’s doing as a film-maker and 2) the source material was brilliant. Although I do wish he’d started at the beginning with Dancing Crane, Singing Envoi (aka Crane startles Kunlun).

We’d be doing this. However, accents are a fact of life. Even people as close as Chengde (承德) speak Mandarin differently than people in Beijing. So I doubt it’s as bad, after all the Canadians have all those Quebecois living amongst them.
