To me the new light saber shows somehow that he represents a bastardized version of the force (combination of dark and light side), He possibly built the lightsaber without any guidance which gives it its roughness.
A Note to 007 writers ... I don’t think people these days will buy a completely outlandish evil scheme but they also don’t want to see something to real. The evil scheme has to be a fantastical with some basis on reality.
