This show turned out to be the treasure of new sitcoms. I am honestly looking forward to a new season and it can't happen soon enough.
My best memories of the punk scene around the late 90's was being able to see bands like AAA, The Lawrence Arms, NFG, The Alkaline Trio, and The Ataris in the smallest venues one can think of. I think I was pretty lucky, and I lived in Indiana.
Intangibles! I came for Garland and stayed because the show is fantastic. This is one of the few shows I now actually look forward to watching every week. I really hope AVClub will start reviewing this weekly starting with season 2.
And Fishbone?
I totally agree about what Kendrick's little mouse lady was saying was funny. "You tell us bit*h" was hilarious. The elephant being named Ashy Larry is great too. This episode started slow but really picked up.
They had Arnold promoting Sabatoge (along with another actor) on the last Monday Night Raw. They appeared alongside the Hulkster.
Did anybody watch 13 Sins? Also a similar premise (it's a remake of a foreign film). It was decent enough. The end was pretty terrible. Still, good enough for a lazy weekend watch. I'll be checking this out.
I saw them at The Metro a few times. The last time at the Oil comp release show, I believe. I almost said Blue Muthaf'n Meanies, you know, because of Wesley Willis. Man, what an amazing live band.
Hot Stove Jimmy is another one! I saw them with the Blue Meanies and Alkaline Trio at some outdoor show in Indiana in the late 90's. It was pretty amazing.
I got an internship at the local alternative station by doing this. Johnny Socko thanked the morning DJ on Full Trucker Effect, I called him up, and had an internship with him that summer.
Yes! I also loved First Grade Crush. Were the Skolars (Telegraph) a Jump Up! band too?
That Dopamines album got me back into pop-punk. I'm glad it was mentioned.
I read the comments just to make sure this was mentioned.
The Mustard (Butt) Plug? They were one of my favorite ska bands in the mid to late 90's.
I bought The Get Up Kids' "Something to Write Home About", Reggie and the Full Effect's "Greatest Hits 1984-1987" and the Promise Ring's "Very Emergency" on the same summer day in 1999. That was the summer following my high school graduation. Oh, the memories. Also, 3 great purchases, in my opinion.
I'm just going to agree with both of you, because they are NOFX's two best releases. I would even put Heavy Petting Zoo right behind these two as their third best release.
I'm pretty sure he mentioned them in one of the previous articles…
That album really took me for a loop when I bought it (release day, as the Arms are one of my faves). It was so aggressive, at least for a 20-some year old. This new one is perfect as they follow my feelings in life to a tee. I am growing old and this band is the perfect soundtrack.
That's so sad, yet so true. Why isn't he huge? It seems like he's a name, yet no one I have ever met has heard of him.
