Awesome piece, Heather. I loved the ending then, and love it more now.

Reminds me in some ways of the ending of its noir sources, of course (Chandler novels, classic noir cinema) but more recently of the loved-and-hated series finale of Angel. Your last line gets to the heart of the genre quite well.

I hear the Captain Pedantic movie is gonna big for Marvel Stage 4, but there’s also some controversy surrounding the casting.

You’re lying, Morgan!

Let’s change the subject...

It happens. If only Nazis were so self-aware! They could say, “Oh, oops, we’re idiots who didn’t look at history, started to comment, but then we checked it out and turns out we’re always on the wrong side, sorry for jumping to Nazi...”

Oh, let’s not forget the pistols in Mass Effect, scifi though they may be! The Scorpion is my all time fav...

Goodbye, weekend!

Also, thanks for the tip!

Already happened, duder. And it’s pretty sick:

Okay, maybe this makes a terrible white boy AND about 99% of the things above disgusted me...

...that game of giant-sized jenga did look kinda fun.

I... yes, after a moment’s thought, I still stand by that assessment. Giant jenga is pretty cool, and I am jealous of that. Jake can go, but giant jenga can stay.

Totally. It’s crazy that people who live in Boston often go out of the city for work, and people who work there get pushed further into Roxbury and Dorchester, and JP...though JP is quickly becoming not so affordable too.

I love Boston’s Chinatown. The last few years, however, there’s been real contention between the longtime locals and recent development off of Washington Street. It’s tough; with rising rents, older families are getting pushed out of this historical part of town, not even because neighborhoods are changing but because

Exactly. It’s like when Preston Brooks literally beat Charles Sumner for speaking out against slavery. Even southerners who didn’t care about slavery were delighted that a northern abolitionist got physically assaulted. People mailed thank-you notes and money to Brooks.

*first comment I see on a cosplay post is appreciative and reasonably phrased and not creepy*

But for real, I’m with you. I can’t imagine how much frakking time it takes to get these.

Yeah. I think it’s just that the voice actor was trying to be extra serious...with content that was already dark. Like, we all get that abuse and violence are scary things, so you don’t need to work extra hard to reflect that or “sound gritty” if you’re a character recalling those things. Just “say it plain” and the

Oh mah gash DORIAN. So good. And I love how the romance also reveals a lot more about him, ya know? He projects this big devil-may-care attitude, but you see he has all these shades in his romance, and he can be genuine and sweet and really does care what other folks think of him... UGH good writing is good! One day

Nice video / essay! I like how you set out your distinction between terror/horror early in the essay (even if I’m not suuuurrreeee I agree with that idea of horror). But it reminded me of this WICKED good book by a dude named Noel Carroll called The Philosophy of Horror, or Paradoxes of the Heart. Carroll would be

SAME. I almost cried from joy when I read your comment. Legit, it’s really rare that folks can politely consider views other than their own. Intellectual curiosity is so so so important. And you got some! Huzzah!

Hold up. Is the Orange League or whatever not “official,” because Ash smoked Drake and won a trophy and everything. Seemed like a big win to me. What was that, season 3, right after Indigo League wrapped up?

This was a short, succinct, and great piece. This would never have fucking occurred to me, gonna be honest, even though I LIKE to consider myself fairly aware of this kind of thing. But this is the kind of commentary we need; racism and rampant murder of Blacks pervades every aspect of our culture, it touches
