Well, we could increase supply by increasing deceased donations. I would 100% support making organ donation an opt out instead of an opt in system which has been shown to increase donation.

By this logic, people who regularly drink Frappuccinos are the least psychopathic among us, and I refuse to accept that.
But you didn't need nicer nurses, you needed better ones.
I’ve had nurses who seemed incompetent and were unkind.
I had a massive saddle PE at the age of 40 (I have a vasculitic disease, chronic, meh), and the ICU nurses were the BEST. The best! Loved them, all the stars, all the hearts. I wish I could have stayed in ICU for my entire time. After three days, when I moved into the general population, thankfully into a single room,…
FWIW, we routinely give diabetics in DKA glucose containing drips to prevent OVER correcting too quickly which can lead to life threatening brain injury.
I want this to come off as reasonable here, but there ARE indications for treating DKA with fluids containing glucose. Decreasing serum glucose needs to be gradual, to allow for the ultimate goal, which is correction/maintenance of the serum pH.
The average RN job does not pay close to 6 figures. You would have to a) have a masters or PhD in a specialty area or b) be doing enough overtime to kill you.
There is always one weird nurse and one awesome nurse. It’s like any other profession- some are amazing, most are average, and a few are not great, or you catch them on a bad day. I have a lot of respect for the work they do. A couple less than great experiences with nurses doesn’t change that.
Be sure to hold onto that resentment for the rest of your life.
No hate here. As a nurse I get to see how other nurses work every day. Some of us are actually shit hot at our jobs. We recognise when some thing isn’t quite right, assess the patient, institute the proper interventions and get early assistance for our patients. We are compassionate and kind and care about our…
I’m pretty upset with how Jezebel readers are being so incredibly dismissive and actually shitty about this.
Nursing is a predominantly female occupation and as such has routinely been dismissed as a less than vocation for exactly that reason. We have to fight to be taken seriously ALL the time. I get shitty comments…
Like all fields, nurses are a mixed bag. I thought I never wanted to be a nurse, because so many people in my family are nurses. But then I changed my mind. And in all fairness my mom, older sister, and now me might come off as condescending to some people. My father’s various hospitalizations have exposed me to both…
I dunno, I think nurses are probably like any other profession: some of them are terrible, some of them are wonderful, and most of them are somewhere in between. It’d be nice if we could toss all the terrible ones out of the profession and give more credit to the wonderful ones (something I’m sure pretty much all of…
I was thinking the same thing. But I was also thinking that she’d get the same level of care as anyone else. Because above all else nurses have patience. (and big hearts)
