Yeah, and since when has she ever been “a vigilante fighting the patriarchy”? Pretty sure she murdered all her husbands to further her cause, not because of gender equality.

The fundamental flaw of this review is that it judges a woman of 1968 and and a man of 1767 by the standards of 2017.
Of course Clare’s narration features a bias toward the British colonialist first world/third world view. She is a product of that society. Of course Clare and Jamie would take advantage of the human…
Plus, if you reconfigure the timeline a bit in your head, you’ll realize that Geillis probably recognized Claire when Claire first arrived at Castle Leoch. Claire would have looked 20 years younger than when Geillis last saw her, but Geillis sidled up to her for a reason.
Especially since Claire is from 1968, not 2017. She’s uncomfortable with John Grey’s homosexuality even though she knows she shouldn’t be jealous of Jamie’s friendship with him. She isn’t perfect, but she’s about as progressive as someone who was pushing 50 in the 1960s is going to be.
Geillis has always been a villian. The reviewer might think back to the last episode of season 2 in which she burned her husband alive in order to power her trip back through the stones. Why is it somehow beyond the pale that she gets up to no good with young boys? So far we know of two husbands that she’s killed with…
It is not a counterpoint at all - you do realize his article is precisely my point: leftists (black and white) believe, wrongly, that Obama did not help them when in fact he did, and the evidence is on the record in his executive orders, his changes in Fed hiring, where/when/how he advocated for those fellow Americans…
Not to mention his greatest achievement: Being a member of an activist black christian church and a secret muslim at the same time. That is a helluva trick.
Wilson knew at least a month ago his contract would not be renewed. This was widely reported. He was not fired for speaking out against Trump’s photo-op with the house negroes from the HBCUs. Wilson walked away from that bullshzt, regretting his/their decision to go and he spoke out about it.
I agree. And to fire him when he was really just a couple months away from the end of his tenure - the message they are sending is pretty clear, to me at least, and that is to sit down and shut up. I don’t know, I’m sure it’s more complicated then that, but that’s how it looks like from the outside.
Isn’t the “Morehouse man” rigorously upright? Isn’t he supposed to call BS when he sees it?
Let me try and take a crack at it::
It just shows, as your stats reflect, that even black folk and certainly liberals ignored many of Pres O’s other significant achievements beyond ACA, Bin Laden, Cuba, Environment, Iran, and so on while falling for the Obama didn’t do anything for black/brown folk. Obama was smart and low-keyed (to the ignorant) many…
Just a guess, but blacks and latin@s are historically underrepresented in college. And black/latin@ aren’t mutually distinct categories.
Yeah, I’m not worried about his ability to find another well paying gig. I am, however, surprised that the Trustees didn’t understand the value of letting him speak his mind for 3 months and then just let the contract lapse. They are in for a shitstorm now.
I kinda think he volunteered to take a bullet for the other HBCUs since he was heading out anyway. I would imagine that there must be other presidents who wish they were in a position to be as outspoken as he was.
I have no doubt John Wilson will be fine. Being fired won’t hurt him. He stood up and said what needed to be said. How HBCUs will fare, that I don’t know.
Michael, thanks for providing additional information in your post. I didn’t know any of the below, and it really matters.
Like Joe Biden?
I’m sorry- what a loser. At least you now know it was all about his own hideous well of insecurity.
Totally. Also makes that little anecdote about him not being able to deliver his lines when he was about to be frozen gross. When Leia says “I love you” and he’s supposed to say it back, but he just kept blowing it until he improvised “I know.”
