Trump “welcomed” America’s Teachers of the Year today, and didn’t invite them to sit down.

Thanks for sharing; I had the same feeling as you. Kara, I love your writing so much and respect your opinions on the daily, but I would ask you to reconsider on this. I watched this commercial today and burst into tears (admittedly, while feeling very loopy from a hangover). I am a feminist woman and POC who works as

So is the big liberal plan just to bark and sneer until the biggots die?

Jesus Christ, get off your high horse. This is not the same as the Pepsi ad (for one thing, where’s the supermodel or notion that a carbonated beverage can soothe the savagery of the riot police) though I’m sure saying so gives you a bit of smug satisfaction. It’s a beer ad, yes, but at least it’s a beer ad that is

“At the end of the day, it’s all the same. This spot doesn’t make me feel like Heineken really cares about trans rights or climate change; it just makes me understand that they are promotionally savvy enough to understand that, in 2017, appearing as if they care about those issues will help them sell beer”

You know what I find the most interesting about this interview from 29 years ago...notice how he speaks, compared to today. He speaks much more rapidly and coherently. Today he tends to speak in short phrases, and in a very repetitive manner, where his sentences are often sprinkled with a few words and phrases that

Absolutely. People tend to forget the backlash she suffered for this. Everyone complained that the show was “too gay” after this episode. And her career tanked for quite some time. I am so happy for her and the success she has had since.

Obama agrees!

I remember this, it was startling and cool. I can only imagine what it meant to gay kids at the time, having Ellen as a role model. She’s a hero.

All those truncated phrases and non-sequiters that mean nothing, except inside his own head. It makes my brain hurt to listen to him.

This is why I can’t watch him speak, he speaks gibberish, full of truncated phrases that go nowhere and mean nothing.

Republicans/Trump lovers just can’t believe some people are actually capable of doing their job fairly regardless of how they personally feel about someone’s politics.

the stenographer is not the person who writes the transcript which is later released. They write the first draft, the transcript writer then cleans it up and writes the final version that goes out to the public, while checking it against footage from the event.

I work with “the people who write the transcripts,” literally share an office with them, and part of their job is to clean up the language of the speaker and make it coherent. If they didn’t do that, they would be fired. Their job is to make people look BETTER on paper, not worse. So yeah, they are absolutely not

This racist piece of shit probably thought “hey, if even a black guy can do it, how hard can being president be?”

Trump is actually a lot more coherent when speaking than when his words are transcribed (not that that’s a huge achievement). You lose a lot of tone and context in a transcript, and I’ve read articles by reporters who have admitted that they’ve had a hard time reading transcripts even of conversations that they had

You know the lamestream media is editing and dubbing over that video live! Don’t spread fake news!

This is a dangerous attempt to move attention away from the Flynn fiasco, the inaugural committee funds, conflicts of interest and Ivanka disastrous overseas appearance. Flynn may hold the key to a lot more than they’re letting on. And watching Chaffetz dodge the Do Something Bullet with his name on it is infuriating.

The New Yorker is killing it with their political stuff lately!
