Some people eat out of boredom. Keeping them busy and off their asses might result in a lower intake. The exercise itself isn’t helping lose weight, but the activity taking up free time does.

Not a doctor myself but I regularly hear my dad as a cardiologist extolling the virtues of 30-60 minutes active time a day. Not to lose weight but to maintain cardiovascular strength.
