oh man you really nailed it - this is the first thing I thought of when I started reading this article!

Lenny Bruce
I am a comedy junkie. Around 1990 I picked up a Lenny Bruce LP and this ignited a phase of obsessive collectiing/worship that I now look back on with puzzlement.

The problem with Night At The Opera is that the studio tried to soften their image by having them only torment characters that seemed to deserve it, whereas in their early films no-one was safe. In Horse Feathers Groucho romances Thelma Todd in a rowboat and by the end of the scene he's thrown her overboard,

Hell, I'm such a purist I don't even like Night At The Opera - basically the first four films and that's it.

in the remake of Fast Times
he really needs to play Damone

TCM
those "Greatest Classic" films of the Marx Brothers are far from it.

Flight Of The Conchords' manager is in Stripes???
"and in Stripes, Murray himself belts it out to save his own skin"

I don't understand the Spanish language, see, so
when I was in high school I wrote English lyrics to La Bamba based on what the Spanish sounded like to me. I can't remember it all, but some of it was:

"It just magically happens"

and yes, as I state in my other post, it's a real love letter to NYC. The skeletal cab driver? The cop and the Con-Ed worker arguing over shutting off the power grid? The multi-ethnic, pan-faith crowd gathered on Central Park West? it's all very New York.

No, nothing in GB is in Philadelphia. Interiors were shot in L.A. and a mock-up of the street outside Dana Barrett's building was constructed in L.A. for the "swallowed by the pavement" sequence, but the rest is all on location.

see my post below for agreement re: New York-ism.

"I love this town!"
That final line went over a lot better here than elsewhere, unsurprisingly, and it's not so out-of-nowhere.

"Back In Time" is an ode to the Catholic church

Strangely I attribute MTV with finally opening my ears to music. Early 80s MTV played some very eclectic stuff, which led me to other things that were related which I'd never have heard of if it weren't for MTV.

ditto on Dr.D

pretty much any cool music
Up until say college I had no musical taste. It wasn't bad taste or good taste, it was simply an absence of music as an art form in my life.

thank you Num Nums

yeah see he's not answering the question then, because the question's not about Basketball Diaries.

and Ja Rule just out of curiosity how the hell does your comment relate to Felt Pelts question?
