Tough to say with Jack Sock. He is not really known for his courage and guts. He is happy to turn it up if things arent going his way. Sock is a kid in the peak of his fitness yet he has retired injured in 2 of the last 3 US Opens including 2 years ago when he was leading 2 sets to 1.

Figures, the Sock never gets any recognition.

As long as they show it in a dystopian light, I don’t see what’s wrong with the concept. It seems like it’s no different from The Man in the High Castle. As you mention, there are two black executive producers.

The history of this country isn’t an open door for peasant cultures to enter, get on welfare, and commit DUIs

Yeah, we’ve heard that nonsense for two centuries. People get here and just want to close the doors. They make noises about “jobs” or “my ancestors got here the ‘right’ way” (which is bullshit, a lot of the time). It’s all just cover for “we don’t want people coming here who aren’t us,” be it Catholics, Jews,

I have to agree that singles Tennis is among the top mentally draining sports for a professional.

Tennis is definitely way the fuck up there. Look at the US Open. You’re playing in 90 degree heat (all four majors are played in summer), the bogus humidity of New York late summer, for four hours, with no more than about a 90 second break in the action, directly under the flight path for LaGuardia.

There might be an argument for Cricket or something like that. But a men’s Tennis match can take upwards of 5 hours of constant physical exertion and positioning and decision making. Almost every other sport is either team based, has long bouts of sitting/rest, or is much shorter than a full Tennis match.

Combine that

Yes, this sentence was just sublime:

Stop infantilizing Roger Federer!

It’s pretty easy to defend the first point by conceding that Nadal is the god of clay and is simply immortal on that surface, and that Federer has a winning record against him on every other surface, and the head-to-head is skewed because Federer was good enough on his least favorite surface to make it to all those

To add to the breakdown of the head-to-head provided by muwarror608:

“Venus Williams will be back in another final soon, and she’ll probably win it”

You seem very upset Williams lost, but none of these are examples of infantilizing.

Do you wake up every morning absolutely determined to find something to be offended by on that particular day?

This take is trying too hard, and Garbine is better than Venus anyway. There was nothing shocking about any of this, and there’s nothing wrong with praising Venus simply for getting as far as she did given the realities of age and health and how they affect sports performance. Jesus.

meh. You doubt wrong.

I agree with Laura! This everybody gets a trophy mentality of pro sports has to stop!

this piece feels like a reach. those tweets are pretty vanilla, but not offensive. and i, at least, do not seem them as infantilizing. more a tip of the hat to a veteran who lost bad. are you just looking for something to be angry about?

The third thing would be not sweating. He can be out playing a marathon 4 hour match against Murray in the desert and the dude still wouldnt sweat.
