Yeah, duh. Silly me. Social change would be so much easier if more people contacted their local representative. Got it. Better get the word out. If history can teach us anything, it’s contact your local legislator.

You know, I wouldn’t care what Beyonce does if she didn’t use Black Panther imagery. Once she did that, she (attempted) to elevate herself to their status. The Black Panthers were true revolutionaries. They were radical. They were grassroots. Beyonce could not be any more different from the panthers.

By supporting people like Bey (with what she is doing), you’re encouraging:

She dressed up like a panther and is telling people to contact their local legislators. I’m fairly certain she doesn’t know what the panthers were actually about. They certainly weren’t pro capitalism.

It’s not about doing what I’m doing. It’s about doing what we know has worked.

It’s ok to judge when wealthy capitalist assholes are trying to exploit grass roots movements. It’s ok to judge when we know what it took for the union movement, women’s movement and civil rights movement to be successful and Beyonce says ‘contact your local legislator’. She’s a joke. How is she going to dance around…

Even John Legend (who I am no fan of) doesn’t use social movements to sell his brand the way Beyonce does. Look how Legend does it and look how Beyonce and Jay do it. Vastly different.

That’s hilarious. Yeah, they’re reading emails and letters. They’re answering phones.

I’ve been working in social movements for two decades. I’ve volunteered thousands of hours to social movements. I’ve been part of groups that have created successful programs to keep people out of jail. I’ve worked inside and outside of the system. I have also been arrested many times protesting state violence.

List the non-Black celebrities? What is the point? I’m not saying there are non-Black celebrities that are any better. I have a problem with celebrities advocating for change or waving a social justice flag but not willing to put the work in.

My problem with Bey and Jay is that they’re using social movements to sell their brand while never actually putting themselves out there. Beyonce is all Black Panthers now. Straight up using their style to perform at the Super Bowl. The Black Panthers were anti-capitalist. I hardly think they would have supported…

Direct Action. Putting their lives on the line. Getting their hands dirty doing the work in their communities. Creating and running programs to feed and educate their community. Risking their lives to confront oppressive institutions. They were also incredibly anti-capitalist which makes Beyonce’s use of BP-like…

So a woman, who along with her husband are worth a billion dollars, throws a few crumbs at the poors and Jezebel along with a handful of sad stans are going to call her militant and fangirl? How low the bar has become.

Contact your legislators? Oh god, yeah that will do it. How about lets all get in the fucking street right now. Of course Beyonce’s response is ‘contact your legislator’.

How is it not jumping on the bandwagon? Why is she speaking up now, a decade after becoming a top artist? Why all of a sudden? Kendrick came up speaking out.
