I bet he confused that with Thomas Paine and Common Sense.

I'm an optimist.

I'm using Windows, but I just tried switching to see how it would feel. I've read a few articles, and I'm already used to it. I don't know why they would make people relearn scrolling- maybe they're planning on putting touchscreens in place of the trackpad or something- but it's not like learning to juggle.

Pyramids or GTFO.

A rock star tech columnist does it, and all of a sudden the young patent lawyers think it's acceptable behavior. These people need some positive role models.

This might have less to do with bloating, and more to do with the loutish, masculine image of their lagers. They want to sell cheap, rice-based beer to women, but women don't want to look like football hooligans. So they give it a French name, clear bottle and put some lemon flavoring in it. Image problem solved.

Interesting fact of the day: Napoleon was actually 5'7" and average height for his day. He was always depicted as short by British cartoonists and the image stuck. Moral of the story: stay on the good side of the British press.

I hate to think how much work is going into making something that already exists... for free. What is making them do it?

Depending on local laws, evidence can be anything a reasonable person might believe will become part of a legal proceeding. It doesn't matter if the crime hasn't been alleged yet, if the police are knocking on the door and you are setting it on fire, it's evidence and you are destroying it.

If your plan was to destroy your drives, you would still have that problem. Turning your computer off takes less time than turning your computer off and setting it on fire.

I think destroying the drives would be destroying evidence. You would be better off encrypting the drives and pleading the fifth when they ask you to give them the key.

Be careful, you're playing with fire there.

There are browser apps for everything from word processing to 3D games, so in terms of apps in general, if you like your data to be online, apps allow you to live completely within a browser.

Hey, they had to fill six whole episodes. Those TV shows with two episodes per season might be able to indulge in coherent storytelling, but a four hour series requires significant padding.

I believe it was Chekhov who said, "If you introduce a caravan in the first act, it must catch fire in the third."

Haha, yep. I posted about it a couple times in #whitenoise, but I didn't want to be too annoying. I guess I guess I was a bit too restrained.

I take back number two. Due to black body radiation, a standard high voltage cable of that length carrying 220kV would reach thermal equilibrium at about -225 °F. I thought it would be somewhat higher.

There are dozens of reasons this will not work. For instance,

Shut up, kid.
