I love Colbert and my only interest in Fallon is “how is this guy famous,” but I also don’t think it’s hollow or cynical to build a late night show that gets the most likes and shares. It’s the job, it’s always been the job, we just have more data now on who does the job “best."

Best guess is they at some point were planning to do it and told people about it but then plans fell through for one reason or another (money, cold feet, whatever) and they were ashamed to admit they hadn’t actually done it.

The older I get, the more I realize that things are fucked up because older people are allowed to be in charge and have a say in things. Hearing Finebaum say this is about as surprising to me as hearing someone’s grandma wax poetic about when everything was still segregated.
