But a politer one that only tells me about the stuff I want to know. It doesn't, and hopefully never will, nag me to get my hair cut, eat my greens or whatever :P

Tasker (well, Android, technically) has built-in text-to-speech. Just type in whatever you want, it says it.

Almost everything tasker for me is via speech, since I've always liked the idea of AI agents that you can converse with. And since most of what it does is organise me, I'm using the SVOX "Oliver" voice, so I can pretend it's my butler :D
