Please re-read your comment and remember, she’s only 17. So you’re right in the sense that her mother should be protecting her. But she should be protecting her from a predatory older man, from feeling as though she needs to have cosmetic procedures done, etc.

She’s 17 though, I think “own it and tell them to fuck off” might be something she’s working towards. She’s really young, and probably hasn’t got that confidence you find as you age. Give her a couple of years though!
