One thing: the chancellor wouldn’t have been the one to invite the guy to campus. The College Republicans would have, not as a UC Davis-sponsored event but as an event on campus sponsored by their org.

This does not change the fact that Yiannopoulos is a waste of genetic material. Just a small point of order about

Why does everyone have to be so negative?

I *still* feel guilt over catching myself thinking he was hot in “Schindler’s List”. I mean, who does that?

But he is.

That is 100% inaccurate. Student conduct investigations for sexual assault are a vast minority of the cases that are adjudicated on campuses, both private & public. Try again.

Correct. Conduct cases typically require a “preponderance of the evidence,” rather than “beyond a reasonable doubt.” See also civil vs. criminal cases in the justice system; that’s why OJ owes money, but didn’t go to jail.

Much more in-depth and well-written information can be found in Jon Krakauer’s “Missoula”.

I don’t think you understand the difference between criminal investigations and student conduct investigations, but that never stopped an internet commenter from speaking is [sic] mind!

It might be story #3 right now, but think of allllll that football that’s going to happen between now and Monday morning. Especially over a holiday weekend, I suspect the views go down when Dudebro isn’t checking scores & reading up while on the clock Monday morning.

Agreed, but aren’t the Delavignes well off? Could be her...

Um, why?

Erberts & Gerberts (midwest-I think-regional) still gives you the guts of the bread. Which is perfect for dunking in your soup. Erbs kicks all these sandwich places’ asses...you need one if you don’t have one.

Not entirely sure how long it should take for an institution to say, “Holy shit, that guy enabled child rape? We want NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT GUY OR HIS MEMORY OR HIS LEGACY!” Cause I kinda feel like that ought to take approximately...wait for it...that long.

As every single other rational human in this thread has

Um...Cowherd’s not on ESPN anymore.

Is he related to Matt Asiata of the Vikings?

ETA: per wiki, they’re not brothers, anyway.

I thought my mother was the only person who still referred to it as “Coke Classic”.

Carry on.

Let’s apply that logic to another case.

If you called an African-American the n-word; and I told you it was a slur and backed it up; then would you say, “Well, I’m glad that all the misrepresented and systematically oppressed people with dark skin have you here to stick up for them!”

It’s the same thing. I don’t agree

I feel like this post indicates the need for an annual Deadspin Dog Show on Thanksgiving. We could name it in honor of your mom.

Yes. I defined “slur” up there, but here’s what dictionary.com says about “redneck”:

From Merriam Webster: Definition of slur. 1a : an insulting or disparaging remark or innuendo : aspersion b : a shaming or degrading effect : stain, stigma.

So, yes.

Agreed. The irony is palpable: using the word “redneck” to describe the people Jost is talking about demonstrates his point exactly. Until the Dems can figure out how to engage the demographic that that slur refers to instead of continue to degrade it, we’re well and thoroughly screwed.

Do we know what, specifically, ESPN is trying to find beyond “allegations against student-athletes” as stated in the WSBT story?
