Well, the 70s had the 50s-set Happy Days, and the 90s had the 70s-set That 70s Show, so we're about right on time for a 90s-set sitcom to steal our hearts. These things go in 20 year cycles you know.

Just checked wikipedia, and it looks like you're right that the UK version predate's Canada's by about a year. Since two of the sharks were originally on the Canadian version, I'd still say Shark Tank is more directly based on the CBC show, though.
