As a Jewish guy, I’m pretty conditioned to be afraid of anti-antisemitism all the time. Mostly because of, you know, our entire history and existence.

A lot of the European teams, specifically in Eastern Europe, are associated with political movements. There will be a team largely supported by Communists, or something. I read Soccernomics a while ago, but it delves into it pretty thoroughly. Explains, though not thoroughly, the intense violence.
