That's how I felt when Daggerfall came out in like 1995. Holy moly did I think that was going to be everything possible in game form. Great game, but yeah, not what they seemed to be promising. (Granted I was 13.)

I think it was an issue of not being able to get enough characters on-screen at once to have a war. There were some "big battles" in Oblivion, but it was like 10-15 characters on-screen, and it brought consoles and current-gen (2006) PCs to stuttering framerates.
Nearly all the Scrolls games talk up great battles, but you never actually get to fight one. Now there's a Medieval II: Total War: Kingdoms mod to change that.
See? Lots of good things have come from Kickstarter.
It's a real shame that Maxis will mostly only be remember for SimCity, The Sims and (sort of unfortunately) Spore. They did so much back in the early '90s besides just SimCity.
Do you remember the giant manual that SimAnt came with? Brought that to school with me every day. I learned more about ants that year than anything else thanks to SimAnt. :)
I dno about inventing the RTS genre (Westwood and Blizzard kind of did that, but even they arguably didn't invent it), but yeah, Ensemble definitely did get ruined.
Maxis had been dead for a long, long time. I think maybe The Sims was the last actual software toy they made, and arguably The Sims 2 was something else entirely (and probably didn't even involve many of the same folks).
I think The Sims might have actually been their last game, really. It was created with the intention of being a software toy, just like the stuff they did in the early '90s.
Maxis has been dead for at least a decade. Sad but true...
Even after reading that, I'm still not sure if I'd like it or not. That's unusual.
As I downloaded Pregnancy, I wondered what qualified me to tell anyone how to deal with a tragically forced conception. But Pregnancy isn't about telling—it's about trying to understand the plight of a person in that position well enough to be comfortable guiding them towards their own decision.
Update 3/2/2015: Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Bravely Default step aside to make room for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Yay, I just bought the Phantasy Star Collection PS2 classic using this guide. Man, that address portion was difficult.
I wonder if it finally feels like a real combat system or if it's still Baldur's Gate's RTS drag and attack mentality. ("But you can pause!")
That's how I've come to feel. That said, I'd probably still buy DQ Heroes if it was on a system I owned. Okay, I definitely would... I am just bitter because I want a single-player DQ XI, DQ VII and Monsters 1 and 2 and Slime 3 on 3DS, and and and and...
Yep, I really liked all the Quest for Glory games, personally (and hey, the 1989 release was called "Hero's Quest"! :P), although I've never played the fifth one.
Kickstarter is the best thing to happen to games in a long time for me. Sure, there are some bumps on the road, but that's all anyone ever talks about: "Kickstarter fatigue" and supposed scams.
Tomba 2: The Evil Swine Return was met with much critical acclaim and was decidedly better than the original, but sales were even lower than its predecessor's. Many fans have hoped for Tomba's glorious return to form, or at least a spot on the PlayStation All-Stars roster.
Kind of annoying that the real Dragon Quests (IX and X) get gimped around multiplayer yet this button-masher is single-player!
