I can't believe this costs a full $60 on the new consoles. People are really desperate for decent games if they're willing to pay that.

Woops, I meant VII, not VIII.

Great soundtrack, too.

Me too. And now we have to suffer through all this nostalgia for PSOne. The only attractive PSOne games were 2D. The 3D stuff was awful.

Actually, if we were being true to FF VII, there would be really rudimentary 3D movies, and the actual game would just be pre-rendered backgrounds with very low-poly character models.

That reminds me of what a disappointment FF VII was after I'd played VI (the real pinnacle) and waited however many years. Not that VII is bad by any means.

Oh, it's the SD card! Cool! Sorry, should have watched til the end before jabbering.

How come the New XL doesn't have removable faceplates? :( Or colored Super Famicom buttons, for that matter (which we'd better get for the US, at least on the regular!)

What the heck is that stuff under the rear faceplate? Battery, and then what's that other stuff?

That's hilarious

Yep. Too bad it never really took off. Instead, it was VIII that did, and ever since, they've been chasing that cinematic dream that was never quite fulfilled, when VI was the true masterpiece.

That's awesome! Why can't they get this guy to do the arranged albums? And get him some real pianos and real drums and let him have at it. This is better than any of the arranged versions that got released.

There was also Grand Finale, the FFVI "arrange" album.

Actually, I think most of those soundtracks were pretty much custom programmed. It wasn't General MIDI, which to me sounds very bland in comparison. Of course they were under tremendous space constraints, but it was a mixture of custom instrument sets and the stuff that came on the hardware. Nobody did it better

It's funny, because things were limited at the time, as you said, but now when there are no limits, no one has really come close to him, in my opinion. I guess games themselves have changed too much, and now we get stuff that is more like a film score. There has to be more room for voice acting, sound effects, even

That's exactly it. In order for our brains to be satisfied, stuff either has to have MORE deviation, or it has to stick to the original. Such is our brain preference, that even simply switching the tone of an instrument can basically ruin it. The original soundtrack is awesome, but let's be honest: it could be

I wish they would have done the entire soundtrack and released it on iTunes. We never have gotten a satisfactory arrangement of the FFVI soundtrack. There are a few different versions, and none of them are all that great.

Yeah, actually, Xseed purchased a fan translation for one of the Legend of Heroes games, too—I think Trails in the Sky Second Chapter.

Well, I agree with you, for what it's worth. The lack of consistency is really annoying! Nintendo does all kinds of strange, unexplainable things. To me personally, it seems like we missed out on a little bit of the authenticity without the colored buttons, such as the SMW example you gave. I still feel a little

It wouldn't be so bad if I could just start back from where I was, but I never have any idea what I was doing and can never remember anything about the game. I don't think I ever did figure out the battle mechanics in FF XIII, for that matter. I need to get some kind of a night job where I can just play games every
