I enjoyed Unfinished Business when I caught it on cable. Vince Vaughn was legit likable in it, which was a novelty. Don't think it was one of the worst movies of the year in a year with Pixels.

This is actually a common trope in comics and animation. The characters are simpler than the backgrounds, allowing you to more easily insert yourself into their place. See McCloud's "Understanding Comics."
