As someone who also drives 80 miles a day, trust me when I say 2012-2017 Buick Regal GS. You can get some of the earlier years within your budget. They have good power and are comfortable to drive. Hitting a pothole sideways at 20mph probably met the parameters for a side-impact crash. If this guy wants to take issue with anyone, it should be the group that laid out an autocross track with potholes on the course.

Saying that the car was only traveling 19mph is misleading. The car was sliding and the speedo only reads wheel speed. So the wheels were turning at 19mph,but the car may have been going much faster than that. See, e.g., your speed when you’re going a burnout. Speedo reads 40mph, car is creeping forward at 5mph.

I’m not surprised he didn’t get a copy of Raytheon’s report. GM commissioned it, GM owns it. Kind of like my home inspection. I paid for the home inspector, this inspection report is mine. You want a home inspection prior to sale, you hire your own home inspector.
