I too, hate media companies attempting to do the due diligence of verifying information before posting a story that might impact people’s lives.

A really big part of reducing the Klan’s power in the early 20th century was when people exposed how fucking stupid they all are.  Grand wizards and dragons and shit, all dumb.  Like when the ADL teamed up with the Superman radio show to make fun of these big dumb racists.
