Also, I live in Houston and students (14 and 15 years old) at 2 different schools in Southwest Houston/Sugar Land were arrested after making threats on Snapchat the day after the shooting. They claimed to be joking, but the Sheriff of Fort Bend County was unmoved by that appeal.

Because there is no separation between “sitting around with my friends” and posting something to the world anymore. When I was in high school if I would have said something like that my friends would have groaned or punched me in the arm for being stupid.

Well, some people have a dark sense of humor, but generally they are smart enough to keep it to themselves. Usually they are smart enough to know that publicizing it is a really bad idea....

I would trace it back to things like the show Jackass (though perhaps it goes back further). YouTube, Facebook, and similar sites only make it horribly worse. People can often be rewarded in some small way (Fame) by doing completely stupid shit.

I think assholes have always been this way, except now a days we can see this shit worldwide due to social media. 20 years ago, these shitbags would be saying the same shit but only to their shitbag friends. Even though they likely won’t face real charges, they’re inconvenienced and possibly have to pay for a lawyer.…
