Ah ... ‘Merica. Bringing us back to the frightening pre-Roe days. I hope none of these fools have daughters or granddaughters who require health services or an abortion. Shame on them.

My son is just starting college with a pre-nusing major. A four year degree is now the minimum that new grads will get hired into these days. I’m glad I took the time and got my BSN, as I’m semi retired due to health issues and I’d be dead in the water without the degree, let alone a stethoscope.

I wear my sash proudly. “IV and Catheter are the same gauge”

This is spot on.

Nurses don’t do billing or see your insurance info. You were definitely neglected and I’m sorry that happened to you, but I swear that we don’t ever see the financials. (Or care.)

I’m good about agreeing to disagree. I’ve known nurses like that. As I got older, it was harder to rebound after working three 12s in a row. I think the ones with the “martyr complex” have it in their real lives too. You’d be surprised how ignorant people are when it comes to what the job entails. You seem to know

Yup. When you have to ride herd on 60 patients, 7 nurses, ambulance traffic, a two hour waiting room filled with people, no bed assignments, new residents (happy summer!), it’s like navigating the maze in the TriWizard.

There is a difference between screaming in pain due to a kidney stone and screaming abuse at the nurse.

The unit manager and the CNO would be down there kissing her butt. One less patient for the ER nurse to worry about!

I guess if it’s pointing up and gets pushed really hard, it could come out of an eye. Which would be gross.

Those things are scary! My kids always wanted to try it, but I’ve had a bad experience with one of those as well.

We don’t all belong to NU. We should, especially if working in a non-union shop. There is nothing in the standard employment contract prohibiting one from joining a nurse union if it’s a non-union shop. I imagine that’s illegal.

Literally the best midweek madness ever. I don’t recognize any of the reality show “stars” anyway, so cool.

We take care of our own precisely due to stupid comments like Behar’s

This was different than lawyer jokes or nurses are “slutty” jokes which are blown off. This was an example of how marginalized nurses are in the workplace. Behar would probably see to it that a nurse would get fired if a dinner tray was late (even though that isn’t in the job description).

No hate. I’m a critical care nurse (a good one and a “good one”) and I recently spent almost two months in the hospital. There were many times when I had to be my own nurse. Once, I had my husband call a rapid response because my call light went unanswered for an hour (they kept turning it off at the station) and I

Unfortunately, whether or not a nurse has a union depends on the state (in the US) and varies from hospital to hospital. The Union has helped me and countless others. Anti-union nurses will argue that in order to elevate ourselves to a “profession” instead of a “trade” is untrue. Even doctors have protection for

Now if we can only unite on the facility level so we can stop administrative bullying, low staff to patient ratios with a population that is getting sicker. We need more nurses at the bedside who have the security of full time employment and protection from asinine scripting. We are supposed to stick to the script no
