According to this NYT article, "federal prosecutors decline to prosecute 67 percent of sexual abuse cases, according to the Government Accountability Office... More than 80 percent of sex crimes on reservations are committed by non-Indian men, who are immune from prosecution by tribal courts.

I suppose I did block season 3 from my memory, so I guess it makes sense that I don't remember this "Piz" person. I'm pretty sure I don't want to watch it again either, now that you mention it, so off to wikipedia I go.

Not really, because I don't think it was posted so we can get riled up against some item on the conservative agenda. Jenna's pointing out that what started as a conservative agenda item went way beyond the right-wing, very quickly, under the guise of feminism. She also added that VS isn't perfect by any means and they

Piz is less than Riley, because at least I remember who Riley is enough to dislike him. Honestly, I do not remember anyone named Piz on this show. Guess it's time to watch it again.

Agreed.

Yep. It's not just Lena Dunham that's charged with it. However, I'm just reminded of how much she doesn't get it nearly every time I read something about her - she just says/does questionable shit a lot. She's just one part of a bigger problem, but because she's getting a lot of attention right now, this means we just

Why yes, I have heard of plays and movies and do enjoy them occasionally. I can see how you would read my last response that way. To be more precise: if someone is thinking of "dressing up" or getting into a "costume" the represents another culture, for the sake of Halloween, a party, a fashion shoot... then one

1) "Does this mean that any depiction of an Indian is racist?" I would venture to say no, but I don't think it's depictions of Indians that is wrong, it's when people try to dress up as someone from a culture that has been institutionally marginalized and oppressed.

Yep! If it helps, it wasn't tempting until the edges by my nail bed started to peel back by themselves. If you ever want a manicure for a special event or something, I think it's worth it, since it does last much longer. I'm just not committed enough with my money or time to maintain manicured nails week after week.

Shellac manicures do make my nails stronger, but only if I remove the manicure properly. After my last one, I peeled off the polish against my better judgement, because I was out of town and too lazy to do it the right way (which involves tin foil wraps and cotton balls soaked in remover, I think). It was hugely

It wasn't just you. I noticed and thought it's stupid that SNL always has to do yellowface. I don't think they've ever had an Asian American cast member who could play someone from East Asia or Southeast Asia.

Yes, what everyone else said. I have watched season 3 and have erased it from my memory, that's how bad it was (really, I don't remember it at all!)

They should just re-print this one from The Nation: http://www.thenation.com/blog/172951/american-horror-story-oscar-pistorius-and-misogynist-myth-making

"Beans that are more than a month old will taste stale because the aromatics (a huge factor in flavor) will have seeped out by then." (from Real Simple article above)

I would add "White History Month" to that list. Timely!

Yep... I don't know how to begin having conversations about privilege and oppression with folks like that. Sigh.

Thank you! I'm glad at least one person has read it and found it useful.

Making the peace sign has been a common way to pose in photographs for a lot of Asian and/or Asian American youth. For the students in the pics above, they're saying, "Hey look at me being Asian!"

For anyone who is typing or has already posted comments like "OMG WHO CARES" or "UGH PC POLICE" or "STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE" - the following blog post explains why we get upset about things like this and why we try to do something about it: http://www.guante.info/2011/01/eight-invalid-arguments-regarding-pop.html

I wish they had those old-school pencil boxes. I had a Lisa Frank one, and I loved to neatly arrange all my pencils, safety scissors, and erasers in it.
