I kind of think that Mayim’s thoughts come from her own insecurity. This thought that she is “ugly” or “undesirable” since she is not the standard of beauty. And because she has never been harassed, she thinks well its because only the pretty girls get harassed/assaulted. Only the pretty, big boobs, big butt, short

What do you think she means to suggest her personal modesty has helped her achieve, and why do you think she thought others needed to hear about it at the particular moment she chose to share? Definitely just one big coincidence!

Yeah, no, I’m sorry. No one who can’t afford a baby, of any race, should be having one. That’s the start of situations that are described here. I agree that our healthcare system for women is completely fucked up, but planned parenthood exists for a reason. And if a person doesn’t have access to adequate birth

So should Google also not give an estimate for how long a walk might take?

I mean, I’ve lost 50 lbs calorie counting sooooo

I use MyFitnessPal on my iPhone for this. I’m fortunate in that calorie counting has allowed me to lose over 45 pounds in the past 18 months. Making it an option is definitely key.

Yeah, thermodynamics are a myth

A 6?

These stories are FAR more sympathetic than the last few, esp the one about the mom who hit her kid with a belt.

until Carrie Bradshaw literally dies of a broken hip (from fucking a young 25-year-old, obviously) (because “hey, what are kids in their 20s all about anyway? LOLOLOLolol horrible pun”)

I *was* bald. ;)

You’re seriously advocating the government pay for a child’s great grandmother’s house to be cleaned so that the mom can go party her woes away. What the ever loving fuck.

In the second story the newborn baby tested tox positive aka he had drugs in his system. This is past the point of when CPS should have intervened. I understand that they may have missed an opportunity to bring the father into the process but I don’t take issue with any of their actions outside of that.

I get—and agree— with your overall point that removal is overused by the child welfare system, but the children in the second story absolutely had to be removed, at least until both parents completed some kind of drug rehab. When a child lives with an active addict, they are in danger every moment. They had a newborn

Do I think certain things could have been handled better? Yes. Do I think any of these parents was raked over the coals, had their rights violated, and/or were separated from their kids for too long? No.

...commentariat was overwhelmingly unsympathetic to the mothers, who they saw as violent and/or manipulative...

Sorry, were we supposed to be sympathetic to the mother who beat her two-year-old with a belt and never acknowledged or took responsibility for the harm she did to her child?

No, the mom said her house was neat. She was accused of neglect for needlessly taking her kids from their clean house to the grandmother’s pigsty. Why in the world should the state send a housekeeper to your babysitter’s house to clean it just so you can go party all weekend? And, how long would this partying all

If it is a dumpster fire, it is well deserved. I am a Black woman, 43, not affluent and survived various forms of abuse in childhood. I was raised by a single mother in generally poor, minority neighborhoods. These folks don’t get a pass from me.
