I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really think it worth be worth the author(s) of this column to check their product recommendations against Paula Begoun's reviews which incorporate consideration of the product's claims and active ingredients.

I would seriously file this tool under the 'sucker born everyday category'. An AHA or BHA exfoliant (depending on if you have oily/dry skin) is what is needed for soft skin. Dogs are not the same as other animals!! Just today watching a National Geographic channel "History of Dogs" special, it was made very obvious to me that dogs are not at all the same as other animals. We, humans, have been selectively breeding dogs for a long time now to have the traits we see in them today.
