When I was a kid (The 70s) wearing or doing anything with flags except using them as flags was something disrespectful hippie assholes and long-haired bitter Viet Nam veterans and Mick Jagger did and they were Evil Incarnate. But within less than a decade the exact same people who had been So Affronted by the

There’s also the fact that if you aren’t familiar with the story (which I’m not), the setup is really off-putting — “Haha! I am a giant who has kidnapped a child, put her in a frying pan, and I’m wielding a cleaver in her general direction! But haha! I’m really FRIENDLY! Haha!”

There is nothing on this earth I love enough to buy a commemorative plate of it.

I’m not quite sure why certain segments of fandom can never seem to wrap their minds around the fact that them not liking something does not override how successful it was financially and critically.

Damn. Gorgeous.

No, Jim Gaffigan, I will not stop. I’m the world’s slowest type-texter and voice-to-text is a fucking gift.

He was arrested and charged! He paid everyone off.

People get embarrassed by earnestness. I loved this video because they all shared the earnestness of being creative in a field they loved.

And, y’know, fuck that guy. Her character WAS the movie — not Mark Ruffalo’s well-done but super-familiar middle-aged useless dude finding his purpose again and reconnecting with the family he actively alienated.

Well, I for one am shocked.

Was a young teen working her first job shelving at the library back in those days, and I well remember putting this book in the paperback rack on numerous occasions. The cover is burned into my brain. We all had that hair, fyi.

Yeah, that YA list has about fuck-all to do with what YA readers actually read, even in the SF category. It’s fairly ridiculous, honestly, to even have the category if this is what the result is with this reader base. I mean, nicely intended, I’m sure, but come on.

I didn’t watch Lost because of Alias, too! Figured I’d wait until it ended to find out if they’d learned how to end a mystery plot.

I think it went five? It seemed to go on for quite some time after I bailed.

I was loving the new Archie comic book, but at C2E2, Mark Waid was really rude to me out of the blue, and it’s spoiled the book for me.

It literally has one of the best pilots of all time. I gave up about three seasons in because of all the flailing with the Rimbaldi plot, but there was a lot early on that didn’t involve that and it was quite good.

I’m both really mad about several decisions made this season by shows I once loved and also a bit relieved because they are working hard to free up HOURS of my time.

I find this show incredibly watchable even though it is also terrible. It is not “so bad it’s good” — it’s just enjoyable in spite of also being bad. I am watching it in earnest, acknowledging that it isn’t good but enjoying it anyway.

They were all gleefully run out of the party in the last 12 years.
