My mom once said this to me about money when I was complaining about having none: "You always seem to have money for the things you want to do." I have found this applies in most areas of modern, privileged, first-world life.

Man, #10 is so, so true.

I actually think DC *is* guilt-free of the crime of crapping on a classic Spider-Man character.

*facepalm*

How is it you can spell "symbiotic" correctly and screw up "being" twice? Dude! That's an achievement of some sort. Kudos?

Carrie Brownstein's made me legit LOL, but it isn't that hard, really. You just match up the corners, smooth everything down, and fold in thirds to hide the corners.

LOVE this movie. I would say it's fantasy because there's no mechanism or logical explanation for what's happening. It just is.

I was given tea in London at proper British establishments that was done that way, so they are right to complain. One CANNOT find a proper cup of tea these days!

Yep, and you should feel like an asshole. We should all feel like assholes when we participate in or stand by idly watching evil unfold. If we don't, we grow up into useless people who do nothing when evil people take advantage.

I get where she's coming from, though. How many people do you know — adults — who only finally get what it's like to go through something *when they go through it themselves?*

I don't know how many times when I was a librarian that I would witness a kid treating his own parents like that — name-calling, utter disdain and cruelty — and the parent would look at me and say, "S/he's really a good kid."

Have them do a pour-over. If you order a blend they don't have "on tap," they'll do a pour-over so you get a fresh cup of whatever you want. Very nice. I get my cafe au laits (aka mistos) done this way by them.

I feel like this whole thread is taking place in 1977 when literally all that was available was Lipton. Things have changed.

It's true. You can't get plain coffee or espresso at Starbucks. Because they have mochas and flavored lattes on the menu, that is literally all that can be purchased there.

I still don't fully buy this. We may not have all the same brands — and Twinings isn't what I'd consider one of the better ones (it's a good starter brand but there are a lot that are more to my taste and since they were one of the first, I believe it's possible they modified their blends for the market) — but there

Well, and aren't tea concoctions inspired by the Masala teas one gets at Indian restaurants?

It may be brand-specific, but there are just so many teas available here and a lot of them are direct imports. I may just live in a better market. I'm less than 2 miles from a tea shop and have three or four major tea companies with full stores available within a few miles plus massive varieties at various groceries

I'm sorry, but this just smacks of bullshittery.

Seriously, when were you last here?

Nothing a request for hotter water wouldn't sort out. I was so disappointed by British tea this last visit. It seems to have gone downhill as something to be done well since I first visited a few years ago.
