I just want to amend this SLIGHTLY because I noticed on second viewing that Damon himself referred to Bonnie as ELENA'S best friend, and then Elena for some reason changed it to HIS best friend. Which was the writers being stupid. But at least Damon got it right, LOL.

I totally agree that Elena was used to push forward the remaining characters' storylines for next season, rather than her goodbyes actually being about HER. While I agree her compassion and selflessness toward her friends defines her and it's totally in character for her to want to be strong for them and encourage

Really disappointed.

I just think the show mucked it up in S5 because that season in general struggled a lot structurally and character-wise (like, don't get me started on Katherine, Caroline and Tyler, etc.) But I still really like DE as a couple, and I think in the first half of season 5 and the back half of this season they have shown

I've never agreed that Elena became annoying or drastically changed personality as a vampire. What changed was the show's emphasis - once she settled into being one, her storylines the last 2 seasons pretty much revolved around Damon, and I think that's what became frustrating and started to make her feel like a

I'm almost tempted to watch next season in the hopes they actually go somewhere with Bonnie and Matt. I've shipped them since the original books all the way back in the 90s. But I know they won't, so whatever.

Totally agreed on Stefan and Caroline. I'll never be into them romantically, but at least this episode put a spotlight on what the biggest issues have been with what their love story has done to each character.

Reading the comments and I'm both happy and sad as a big Elena fan to see some people who have not liked her in a long time liking her again, and it being down to her being human and in danger, basically. Elena was damn kickass as a vampire too - I still remember her taking down Kol AND shoving the cure down

THANK YOU.

Elena brought up giving the cure to Caroline last week. Damon basically dismissed it.

I have more of the reaction of some other comments about Elena's exit arc - I DON'T give the writers a pass on it feeling rushed. They've known since at least before this season started that Nina was leaving, and instead of building it up they pushed her to a supporting role as "the girlfriend" and ignored all her

Bonnie has a crush on Damon in the books (Bonnie basically has a crush on everyone in the books, lol), and Damon has a soft spot for her while Elena is dead, and in the later books written 15 years after the first 4 books does seem to feel something for her, but they're never actually a couple. Damon stays in love

I'm pretty sure it was just supposed to be funny. Cause it is! Cause it's true! In the world of the show it's exactly how all the characters describe them.

I'm so glad to be into a new story this episode. It's great that Caroline got a real storyline but man, do I find her boring as a lead. She works best for me as a supporting character. I didn't even pay attention to most of the last episode. So, this one:

That's my only issue with Bonnie giving the cure directly to Damon and then insisting it's none of her business what he does with it. Girl, Elena is your best friend! You damn well should be making sure Damon at least TELLS her the cure is available. This is my frustration with the intense ramping up of a Damon/Bonnie

I love Bonnie and Jeremy and am sorry to see them go, but I've also been a low-key Bonnie and Matt shipper ever since she saved him from drowning in season 3, and I could totally be on board with her getting her hands dirty with Kai. And yes, I don't blame Bonnie for prioritizing Damon, I blame the writers for

Not me! I would find that utterly contrived. And tragic that every male/female relationship has to be a romantic one. Luckily the narrative continues to be dedicated to Damon's unending love for Elena and to her constantly rediscovering her love for him. I really like them being the most stable couple on the show

I don't think the vamp hearing has been clarified actually. There's always an establishing shot of them tucking their hair behind their ears and intensely listening in when the show wants to indicate they are using it, not to mention all the times they conveniently don't overhear each other from a few feet away. Ah

I've always just assumed vamp speed uses a lot of energy so they don't just use it willy nilly. Same with things like the enhanced hearing. They seem to have to consciously choose to "turn on" those abilities. That and, of course, production budget reasons, lol.

I complete agree. Elena was a great friend, and no she did not deserve a neck snap. That's kind of why it was so obvious Caroline turned off her emotions, lol. And Elena also went through a whole lot more grief before she turned her emotions off (because Damon told her to, remember). That scene wasn't hypocrisy, it
