OMG this. I worked retail - the expectation that if someone works in public that they are a receptacle for whatever bull***t someone wants to toss at them seems endemic (but particularly for Baby Boomers.) If you’re lucky, you’ll have a manager that shuts those customers down - but those are few and far between.

I cut off contact with my mother, and when I got “But she’s your mother!” I replied with “Giving birth doesn’t magically turn you into a good person.” The other party then usually got very quiet and thoughtful.
