After Best Buy turned theirs off, I went in to use Google Wallet so I could complain about it not working.

Yes it is. They use the same tech (NFC) and I haven't heard of a single place where one worked and the other didn't.

I hate stopping at a gas pump and see the ))) (close enough) symbol for NFC Payments, and go oooh, pull my phone and do the payment...then the gas pump beeps and rejects that payment method. Thanks CurrentC...your payment system sucks compared to the NFC Payments that Apple Pay and Google Wallet have perfected.

Uh...if they take Apple Pay, they take all NFC payments, you're thinking CurrentC for that "closed, proprietary payment system on a closed, proprietary platform"...Apple Pay uses what Google Wallet does...but hate on all you want.

It sure would be great if retail politics weren't making such a dent in Apple Pay's footprint at certain big retailers who've either decided to wait or disable NFC payments.

You know, I was on the fence about Apple Pay, and I still won't say that it has necessarily REVOLUTIONIZED the way I pay... but I will admit that, after having it for a few months, I find myself often saying "ug, I wish this place took Apple Pay." It is more convenient (for me).
