Yeah, I've been amazed at how much actually happened in Season 1.  I would have sworn both Marcel and David showed up much later, like season 4 or 5.  David comes back, of course, but still.  Had no recollection of him first appearing so early.

Yes, the theme's were assigned after the obligatory trip to Whole Foods.  However, both teams were given a chance to send a team member back to the store & get new ingredients.  Only one team choose to do that, however — and that's the team that won.  Not a coincidence.
