Having worked in the lighting biz for Bosch and Hella, I know that the tooling for modern lighting systems is expensive, as well as the certifications for different markets. Much easier to use pre-approved components and if the OEM agrees, why not?

My 66 Mustang conv. (289 2bbl) with auto trans was overheating as well. I replaced the radiator and the thermostat (along with a new radiator cap) and added an overflow bottle. Took care of the overheating problem. Left the fan alone and didn’t add a trans cooler.

Former lighting engineer here. I agree that many late model headlights are very bad, partly due I think to styling over-ruling function. But then how are these headlamps actually meeting the requirements for output? I am guessing that OEMs self-report and the government isn’t checking (but IIHS is).

I think a major issue would be likelihood of confusion in the German market. Even if Ford purchased the rights to the Mustang name, that would mean that there would be cars and trucks at the same time bearing the mark Mustang.
