I say, keep it simple. I remember this article a few years ago addressing the same issue and the method was far easier to implement. I'd love to see some data comparing the overall efficiency of both models.

I suggest that all winter storm names begin with the letter 'S' and that 'Super Storm' automatically precedes each one. Use SHADOWS to easily scan an entire row to see what spaces are open. Of course, it doesn't work 100% of the time, but you'd be surprised how easily you can spot open spaces by looking at the ground instead! I found this trick out by accident one day and its been a great time saver.

Add PVC to the top as well and use small bungee cords from the eyelets to remove excess slack
