But what about the emotion and expression of the actors even when you don't understand the language? Think of Toshiro Mifune in the early Kurosowa films 'Rashomon' and 'Seven Samurai' (both of which have had many remakes). Would the emotional impact of his characters be the same with dubbing ?

“One lawyer with a briefcase can steal more than a hundred men with guns …”
― Mario Puzo "The Godfather"
He looks like Father Mulchahy's gin swilling lapsed-catholic twin brother.
See the distinction I made above, Carl was essentially in combat mode, there was a huge amount of gunfire and explosions moments before he acted which puts nearly anyone, even experienced soldiers in life-or-death mode. Then, a few minutes later, someone they don't know is coming at them, armed, clearly one of the…

The Funhouse is never shown much but it is wonderfully creepy and much more suspenseful and intersting than the current wave of blood and torture porn.
Once again I was fortunate enough to have lived in NYC in those times and had friends who were punk musicians, writers and artists. My friend David was The Cramps semi-offical photographer for a little while and I got to hang out backstage at Max's Kansas City with them before their show one night. I will not…
That's very interesting, I had the same reaction to 'Black Hills' I bought the paperback at an airport and maybe read the first 20% during the trip, I know where it is but have not been drawn back to it. On the other hand I've read all the Flashman novels twice this year.
Passed on in a friendly rather than a grammar nazi state of mind. ;-}
I guess I am dating myself when I say to 'play the first side' of anything on modern media …. Oh well my beard is greying too.

Perfect Day
Satellite Of Love
I was raised in NYC and have the good fortune to be the right age when the local rock and club scene was at its zenith in the late '70s and early '80s. I saw Lou many times at the Bottom Line and other local clubs that have sadly passed into legend. He never played 'Perfect Day' as a straight love balled but always…

Really! First 3D Horror Film - "Bwana Devil" 1952. Best classic 3D films: "House of Wax" (Vincent Price) "Dial M for Murder (Hitchcock)" both from 1953. Wikipedia lists about 30 from 1953 alone.
Do you not realize that the little chip that is now in your credit card always let's your bank know here you are so they can come on by when you are out and please your wife like only a banker can. It also convinces you that it's reasonable for them to charge you 3$ to give you $20 of your own money at an ATM.
It is from Breaking Bad and must be seen to be appreciated. The scene is funny and sad and heartbreaking all at once, you see the human being, the absurdity when seen from a distance of what she does to survive, the moments of pain and pleasure and even friendship in between. This is one of the reasons BB has gained…
You mean that suspiciously bright aluminum shiny fence without a spot of rust or corrosion on the chain link or the razor wire ? The one whose main poles (at a prison yard!) are apparantly not deeply set in concrete ? Meanwhile the rest of the prison looks like it was abandoned before the ZA broke out.
There are so many instances of it I am surprised you feel that way. Here's an obvious one. The 'day in the life of a streetwalker' sequence set to the catchy upbeat sweet love song 'Windy' by the Association. The quick cuts alone of her head dissappearing in the laps of customers timed to the bass beats on the…
