I have to disagree.  As a software professional I can tell you that all generations know and revere this movie as much as musicians love (and fear) "Spinal Tap" and hockey players know "Slap Shot".  A weirdly knowing look into a sub-culture.

Sorry Colonol,  but as a resident of Brooklyn during the real Summer of Sam and a frequent denizen of CBGB, I can tell you that there were all ready some pretty far-out punks in the late '70s.  They did get some of the details wrong but the leather, the spikes and the hawkwing hairdo were all around.
