I think part of it is the GM makes the offer but it’s not his money. GM’s go into the job knowing if the team doesn’t win in 2 or 3 years, they will probably get fired. So what do they have to lose? But the owners need to be like “Yea, don’t offer a 30 year old a 12 year contract.”
