A lot of of the sort of tech-demo experiences are pretty much just sight-seeing, or exploring an interesting scenario or setting.

Stopped publishing it? Snowblind, the developer behind it, made a few games after that - Lord of the Rings, War in the North (2011) was their last game. It was definitely reminiscent of Norrath, but moved away from the isometric perspective.
