Finally last week my laptop decided that, sometimes, it just wouldn’t need to charge. No amount of port switching or cable switching or holding it really close to my face and whispering could get it to power on. The issue, clearly, unfortunately, was with the logic board. Something inside the computer was telling it

I’m reading this article on my late 08 MacBook 5.1 that I put a SSD and 8gb ram in and still works well and cause I forgot to charge my MacBook 12 inch but show me any windows 10 year old laptop that works and I’ll be surprised.

I rather appreciate that OSX is only designed to work on Apple hardware. No need for excessively bloated drivers or hardware that fails in two years. My 2011 MacBook Air 11" is still running like a champ and I haven’t felt the need to upgrade my laptop.

Meanwhile, directly below this post:

This is silly. You can unplug your smart speaker any time you want, and then both it and the microphone are off. I work in marketing, and when companies like this “use your data” what it means is that when we give money to Amazon or whoever and ask them to target people who have behaviors that look like the behaviors

The problem is you framed this in the limited scope of things YOU might use a voice assistant for. For my elderly father, being able to turn on his outside lights from his chair is a game changer. For my sister, being able to play kids songs or lullabies at her daycare while 6 toddlers run around is incredibly

Sorry, but working in the kitchen and being able to say “Alexa, turn on/off so-and-so light” is very handy. Adding items to the grocery list by just speaking, and even getting the occasional item ordered is helpful. The key was to prohibit certain things like - “Alexa, lock front door” or “Alexa, open garage”. Don’t

Aw, somebody still thinks privacy exists.

Sinister governments and multinational corporations will be rewarded with hours of my 3-yo daughter saying “Alexa, play [Trolls/Frozen/Tangled/etc.] soundtrack” and then proceeding to sing along. Have at it badies.

I am clickSucka and I approve this click bait

Remember when the Internet was evolving in the 90s and everyone said you should never give a website your real information let alone your real payment information? I don’t think Bezos is worth $100 billion because we are giving Amazon fake addresses and credit cards every time we make a purchase.

This ^^

How dare you bring facts into this.

“Who in the hell is this Democrat-come-lately to scold Democrats on all they’ve done wrong?”
